Today, Innersloth officially launched Among Us’ first official Twitter account. The team previously used its studio account for any news or announcements related to Among Us, though it’s crazy to think a game as popular as Among Us didn’t have a Twitter account, but that’s just evidence of the indie game’s surprising success. In its first two tweets on the new account, Innersloth teased a new map, and then pointed to The Game Awards 2020 for something suspicious.

“Hungry for more? Keep an eye out for @thegameawards on Dec 10. It’s getting reaaaaal suspicious over there,” reads the message. As such, there are no real hints regarding what Innersloth might have in store. It could be a deeper look at the new map that it teased, or it could be something much more substantial. The Game Awards is typically used for announcements of all sizes, so anything is possible.
One thing that almost certainly won’t be announced is an Among Us 2. In late September, following Among Us’ surge in popularity, Innersloth canceled the development of Among Us 2. Instead of a sequel, Innersloth would focus its efforts on expanding the original game, meaning features planned for the sequel would instead be added to the first, and the team’s larger efforts would go into reworking large parts of Among Us’ code so as to support these changes.
Features that Innersloth teased adding for the sequel that it now plans to add to the original include modes with a higher player count and new roles. New maps are, obviously, coming sooner rather than later. Innersloth likely has plenty of surprises in store for Among Us fans, too.
One big question is whether or not Innerslotch will seek to further monetize Among Us. The game’s popularity skyrocketed well after the game originally launched but its price on Steam remains just $4.99. With Among Us’ success, a lot of $4.99 purchases can go a long way, but further monetization could secure the studio’s future for a very long time. All eyes will be on The Game Awards 2020 to see what Innersloth plans for Among Us to become in the future.
Among Us is available now on PC, as well as iOS and Android devices.
